German is a precise language, and a wrong article or a mistaken ending can confuse a learner for months. This page explains how we research, write, check and update every lesson on German Simplified.
1. We start with the learner’s real question
Before writing, we look at what learners actually search for and ask, and at the best existing explanations. Then we ask: what is still missing or confusing? Each lesson is designed to answer that gap clearly, starting with a short direct answer.
2. Sources we trust
- Dictionaries and corpora: Duden, DWDS and Wiktionary for gender, plurals, meanings and usage.
- Grammar references: standard German grammar textbooks and the CEFR descriptors used by the Goethe-Institut.
- Exams: only the official sites of the Goethe-Institut, telc, ÖSD, TestDaF and the universities that run the DSH. Fees and formats are dated so you know when they were checked.
3. How every example is checked
- Every German noun is shown with its article and plural, checked in a dictionary.
- Example sentences are checked against dictionary usage examples and real-world corpus data.
- Where usage differs between Germany, Austria and Switzerland, we say so.
- We aim to have grammar lessons reviewed by a native speaker. When a native speaker has reviewed a page, we note it.
4. How we use AI
We use AI tools for limited, supervised tasks, such as brainstorming practice sentences, generating illustration drafts, and checking for typos. Every lesson is planned, edited and fact-checked by a human, and every German example is verified against the sources above. AI-made images are always labeled “Image created with AI” in their captions, and we never let AI put German text inside images.
5. Independence
Our lessons are not sponsored. Some reviews of apps, books or courses contain affiliate links, which are always disclosed. A commission never changes what we teach or how we rate a product. See our Disclaimer.
6. Updates and corrections
- Language lessons are reviewed at least once a year.
- Exam guides are reviewed every six months, and whenever a provider announces changes.
- Each page shows its “last updated” date.
- If you spot a mistake, please contact us. We correct confirmed errors quickly and are grateful for every report.
7. Who is responsible
German Simplified is founded and edited by Nemai, who holds a master’s degree in psychology and is completing an MCA. Read more about us.
